This ground-breaking move will reduce up to 90% of net CO<sub>2 <\/sub>emissions from its generators and significantly reduce nitrogen oxide (NO<sub>x<\/sub>), particulate matter (PM) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-crownoil-content-spacer content-spacer\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-hvo-green-color has-text-color\" id=\"h-who-are-kao-data\">Who are Kao Data?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 2014, Kao Data develops and operates advanced data centres for high-performance colocation. From its hyperscale-inspired campus in the heart of the UK Innovation Corridor between London and Cambridge, it provides cloud, HPC, AI and enterprise customers with a world-class home for their compute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Devoted to tackling climate change, Kao Data is a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climateneutraldatacentre.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact<\/a> (CNDCP) and has one of the most sustainable colocation data centre campuses in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Current <a href=\"https:\/\/kaodata.com\/about\/sustainability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sustainable initiatives<\/a> already in place include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Using 100% renewable energy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Operating 100% refrigerant-free indirect evaporative cooling technologies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Incorporating hyper-scale inspired design to deliver a market-leading PUE of &lt;1.2, even at partial loads<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Switching to HVO fuel in its generators marks another huge step in its green commitment to become a fully carbon-neutral data centre operator by 2030. To begin, Kao Data has replaced 45,000 litres of diesel and then switched to using more than 750,000 litres of HVO when the campus is fully developed<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-crownoil-content-spacer content-spacer\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kao Data - The Road to Net Zero: Reducing CO2 emissions by transitioning to HVO fuel\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7jOcaFkhk1M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-crownoil-content-spacer content-spacer\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-hvo-green-color has-text-color\" id=\"h-what-are-the-benefits-of-using-hvo-fuel-in-your-data-centre\">What are the benefits of using HVO fuel in your data centre?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>HVO fuel is a second-generation, advanced renewable diesel alternative. Using a specialist hydro treatment process, it\u2019s synthesised from 100% renewable materials such as vegetable oils, which makes it one of the cleanest fuels on the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HVO has been designed to combat the performance inadequacies of earlier biofuels. It\u2019s FAME-free, so eliminates microbial growth which causes sludge to block fuel lines and potentially leads to engine shutdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This anti-microbial quality allows it to have a storage life that is ten times longer than standard diesel and offers robust year-round performance in both high and low temperatures. It is also easier to maintain, free from aromatics, sulphur and metals, odourless and is completely biodegradable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HVO also doesn\u2019t require any modification to existing infrastructure and can be used as a direct replacement for conventional diesel, eliminating the cost barriers which prevent users adopting other renewable fuels.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>This pioneering approach to replace our generator&#8217;s diesel provision with HVO fuel is a key step in the company&#8217;s efforts to become net zero, and a further demonstration of our leadership in the international data centre sustainability field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This move efficiently eliminates fossil fuels from our data centre operations, and helps us reduce <a href=\"https:\/\/kaodata.com\/discover\/news\/the-road-to-net-zero-kao-data-becomes-first-uk-data-centre-to-transition-from-diesel-to-renewable-hvo-fuel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scope 3 emissions<\/a> in our customers&#8217; supply chain, while delivering no degradation to the service they receive.
