The requirements for this hydraulic oil are set out in ISO 6743-4 with the designations HL, HM, HV. The German designations HL, HLP, HVLP are used universally for hydraulic oils, in accordance with DIN 51524.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-crownoil-content-spacer content-spacer\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-regular\"><table><thead><tr><td>Classification<\/td><td>Properties<\/td><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>H and HH<\/strong><\/td><td>Mineral oil with no active ingredients<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>HL<\/strong><\/td><td>Contains active ingredients to enhance corrosion protection and resistance to ageing<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>HM<\/strong><\/td><td>Includes active ingredients to improve corrosion protection and resistance to ageing as well as to reduce wear from scoring in the mixed friction area<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>HLP<\/strong><\/td><td>Additional active ingredients as well as HL oil are added to reduce wear and increase resistance in the mixed friction area &#8211; the most common application in practice<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>HV and&nbsp;HVLP<\/strong><\/td><td>Similar to HLP, but with increased resistance to ageing and an improved temperature-viscosity relationship<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>HLPD<\/strong><\/td><td>Like HLP, but with additives to enhance particle transport (detergent effect) and dispersion capacity (water carrying capacity) and active ingredients to increase the corrosion protection (German designation, not standardised)<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-crownoil-content-spacer content-spacer\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-fire-resistant-fluids\">Fire-resistant fluids<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-crownoil-content-spacer content-spacer\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-regular\"><table><thead><tr><td>Classification<\/td><td>Properties<\/td><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>HFAE:&nbsp;Oil in water emulsions<\/strong><\/td><td>The water content is above 80% and is mixed with a mineral oil or soluble polyglycol-based concentrate<br>With a mineral-oil based concentrate, there is the risk of separation and microbe growth (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.crownoil.co.uk\/guides\/diesel-bug-contamination-guide\/\">diesel bug<\/a>)<br>Flame resistant, can be used at temperatures between +5\u00b0C and +55\u00b0C<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>HFAS:&nbsp;Synthetic concentrates dissolved in water<\/strong><\/td><td>No risk of separation, as this is a true solution, which means the hydraulic components are significantly more susceptible to corrosion<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>HFB:&nbsp;Water in oil emulsions<\/strong><\/td><td>The water content is above 40% and is mixed with a mineral oil &#8211; this emulsion is rarely used<br>Flame resistant and can be used at temperatures between +5\u00b0C and +60\u00b0C<br>In Germany, HFB fluids are not permitted due to the lack of fire protection properties<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>HFC:&nbsp;Water glycols<\/strong><\/td><td>The water content is more than 35% in a polymer solution<br>Flame resistant and can be used at temperatures between -20\u00b0C and +60\u00b0C<br>Can be used at pressures of 250 bar<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>HFD:&nbsp;Synthetic liquids<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>HFD-R:<\/strong> Phosphoric esters<br><strong>HFD-S:<\/strong> Anhydrous chlorinated hydrocarbons<br><strong>HFD-T:<\/strong> Mixture of HFD-R and HFD-S<br><strong>HFD-U:<\/strong> Anhydrous other composition (consisting of fatty acid esters)<br>Synthetic liquids have a higher density than mineral oil or water (not HFD-U), which can cause problems with the suction performance of pumps and affect a lot of gasket materials.<br>Flame resistant and can be used at temperatures between -20\u00b0C and +150\u00b0C<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-crownoil-content-spacer content-spacer\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1099\" height=\"216\" src=\"https:\/\/www.crownoil.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/biogradable-oils.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-103709\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.crownoil.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/biogradable-oils.jpg 1099w, https:\/\/www.crownoil.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/biogradable-oils-300x59.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.crownoil.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/biogradable-oils-1024x201.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.crownoil.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/biogradable-oils-768x151.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1099px) 100vw, 1099px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-crownoil-content-spacer content-spacer\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-biodegradable\">Biodegradable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Biodegradable hydraulic liquids are manufactured using plant oils, such as rapeseed oil and are used in biologically critical environments, such as construction machinery in water protection areas and snow grooming equipment in mountains. The fluids are class 1 harmful substances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Labelling:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HE = Hydraulic Environmental<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Classification:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list tick-list\">\n<li><strong>HETG<\/strong> (triglyceride base = plant oils)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>HEES<\/strong> (synthetic ester base)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>HEPG<\/strong> (polyglycol base)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>HEPR<\/strong> (other base liquids, primarily Poly-alpha-olefins)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-crownoil-content-spacer content-spacer\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-water\">Water<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Water is inoffensive as a hydraulic liquid in every respect, however, it doesn&#8217;t offer corrosion protection. Pure water is not used in power hydraulics and is instead mixed with oil to form an emulsion, similar to cutting oil in cutting machines. However, there is the issue of separation in some instances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first technical use of hydraulics employed water as the fluid.
